GIG POSTER ASSIGNMENT

Tools

Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

A white, red, yellow, purple, and black poster made up of a collage with the words "Rose Petals" photocopied next to a vintage photo of a woman with a flower superimposed over her head.

For my Advertising Design course, we needed to create a large gig poster and logo for a fake band. Since I am a sucker for the artwork of bands like My Bloody Valentine, The Flaming Lips, and Sonic Youth, I thought creating a digital collage for my poster with a psychedelic-like logo would be a fun challenge.

The person in the collage is made of public domain photos spliced together and distorted. The background, meanwhile, is made up of an outer space photo and some homemade marbled paper textures. I made the band’s logo by utilizing the photocopy feature on my printer, heavily stretching, and roughening up a sans-serif typeface to give the design a bit more grit and visual interest. I thought the end product turned out quite successful, as it is intriguing and representative of the music that influenced this poster.
